Message to the Overcomer: Wisdom

~ WISDOM ~
Job 28:12-28

But where can wisdom be found, and where is the source of understanding

No one knows the way to it, nor is it to be found in the land of the living.  “It is not in us”, declare the ocean depths; the sea declares, “It is not with me.”

Red gold cannot buy it, nor can its price be weighed out in silver; gold of Ophir cannot be set in the scales against it, nor precious cornelian nor sapphire; gold and crystal are not to be matched with it, no work in fine gold can be bartered for it; black coral and alabaster are not worth mention, and a parcel of wisdom fetches more than red coral; chrysolite from Ethiopia is not to be matched with it, pure gold cannot be set in the scales against it.

Where then does wisdom come from?  Where is the source of understanding?

No creature on earth can set eyes on it; even from birds of the air it is concealed.  Destruction and death declare, “We know of it only by hearsay”.

God alone understands the way of it; he alone knows its source; for he can see to the ends of the earth and observe every place under heaven.  When he regulated the force of the wind and measured out the waters in proportion, when he laid down a limit for the rain and cleared a path for the thunderbolt, it was then he saw wisdom and took stock of it, he considered it and fathomed its very depths.

And he said to mankind:  “The fear of the Lord is wisdom, and to turn from evil is understanding!”

Happy is he who has found wisdom, he who has acquired understanding, for wisdom is more profitable than silver, and the gain she brings is better than gold!  She is more precious than red coral, and none of your jewels can compare with her.  In her right hand is long life, in her left are riches and honor, her ways are pleasant ways and her paths all lead to prosperity.  She is the tree of life to those who grasps her, and those who hold fast to her are safe.  Proverbs 3:13-18

Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget or turn a deaf ear to what I say.  Do not forsake her, and she will watch over you; love her, and she will safeguard you; cherish her, and she will lift you high; if only you embrace her, she will bring you to honor.” Proverbs 4:5-8

The first step to wisdom is the fear of the Lord, and knowledge of the Most Holy One is understanding, for through me your days will be increased and years be added to your life.  If you are wise, it will be to your advantage; if you are arrogant, you alone must bear the blame.  Proverbs 9:10-12
