Message to the Overcomer: Loyalty

1. Have no other Gods before me –
Exodus 20:2-3

God commands loyalty.  Loyalty is a lost concept in today’s society.  We easily give up on one another. We don’t care to work out our differences because “It’s all about me and what I want.” Loyalty is another word for faithfulness.

Loyal denotes faithful, devoted, dependable, fidelity, and allegiance; faithful denotes loyalty, devoted, trustworthy, and true.

God’s desire is for us to, first of all, be true to Him and be devoted to Him and His ways.  His desire is for us to maintain our allegiance to Him.  We should not have anything first place in our lives except God.   When other things get in the way, then we are treading on having other gods instead of the one true God at the helm of life.

Infidelity, the lack of faithfulness, is running rampant in the world and in the Church.  The only remedy for infidelity is to walk in the spirit, be lead by the spirit, and to follow the leading of God.

Faithfulness is the fruit of the spirit (Galations 5:22).  If the spirit of God dwells in you then you have the ability to be faithful to God, family, friends, employers, pastors, husband and wife.  You have the ability to put God first in your life and let everything else revolve around Him.

Application:

• What is the difference between being loyal to God and being loyal to a church?
• Where do fidelity, faithfulness and loyalty fit into your life?
• When was the last time you demonstrated faithfulness to God?
• What is keeping God from being first place in your life?
• Who is the earthly person you are most faithful to?
