Being raised from the dead was undoubtedly the crowning moment of Lazarus’ life. Lazarus had fallen sick and eventually died. When he was buried, a huge stone was placed in front of his tomb. When Jesus received the news of his death, He quickly proclaimed to the world that he would raise Lazarus from the dead. The key to this miracle was not only what Jesus did, but also the command He gave, “Roll away the stone!” When Jesus issued that command, He clearly shifted the responsibility of the miracle to the shoulders of the people. If they had not rolled away that stone, Lazarus’ corpse would have stayed in that cave.
There are certain times in your life, when in order to experience a miracle, move to the next level or receive deliverance, you will be required to roll away a stone. Until you do, you cannot reasonably expect to see God move on your behalf. However when you roll away that stone, God is going to show Himself strong in your life!
38 Again feeling very upset, Jesus came to the tomb. It was a cave with a large stone covering the entrance. 39 Jesus said, “Move the stone away.” Martha, the sister of the dead man, said, “But, Lord, it has been four days since he died. There will be a bad smell.” 40 Then Jesus said to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?” 41 So they moved the stone away from the entrance. Then Jesus looked up and said,“Father, I thank you that you heard me. 42 I know that you always hear me, but I said these things because of the people here around me. I want them to believe that you sent me.” John 11:38-42 (NCV)
