What Does the Lord Require of You?

“He has shown you, O man, what is good;  And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”  Micah 6:8.

“Learn to do good; seek justice, rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow.”  Isaiah 1:17

“…Observe mercy and justice, and wait on your God continually”, Hosea 12:6

To love mercy simply means to be kind, show kindness.  God showed mercy on us by not giving us what we deserved. When we, as sinners, deserved death he made a way of escape for us by sending his Son Jesus to die in our place.  “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in our sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved), Ephesians 2:4-5   Mercy is a strong word and not fully understood.  Mercy saves us from ourselves.  Mercy deals with the negatives, the not so good.   Instead of condemning the sinner, show love and help him out of the sin.  Jesus, in Matthew 9:13, told the Pharisees to go and learn what it means, “I will have mercy and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repent.”   Also read Matthew 12:7

To walk humbly with your God takes an act of your will.  Humility denotes a state of mind not necessarily an act.  Humility is the quality of being humble.  To be humble is to be submissive, meek in spirit, not proud or assertive.  Therefore, to walk humbly with your God is to be submitted to his will and not your own.   Allow God to take the reigns of your life and lead you where He would have you to go.  “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.”  1 Peter 5:6.   Read 1 Peter 5 to see why we should humble ourselves.

So, what does the Lord require of you?  Jesus said he did not come to destroy the law but to fulfill it. (Matthew 5:17).  “A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”  John 13:34.  Love is the requirement.  With love you will show mercy.  With love you will do justly.  With love you will walk humbly with your God.  “Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believes”, Romans 10:4.  “Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loves another has fulfilled the law,” Romans 13:8  “Love works no ill to his neighbor:  therefore love is the fulfilling of the law,”  Romans 13:10 .

Micah says that the Lord requires justice, mercy and humility.  Jesus requires Love, because LOVE never fails. ( 1 Corinthians 13:8 )   Keep in mind that love is an action word.  If you love then you are in the act of doing.  Love is never passive.  Love is more than just mere words.  God gave his only Son as an expression of His love for us.

Yours in Christ,

Sister Rosita
